With a program full of artistic activities and cultures, the cities of eastern Peru attract thousands of tourists to one of the most important dates of the year, the Feast of San Juan.
In honor of the patron saint of San Juan Bautista, the XXII Regional Festival of San Juan Ucayali will be celebrated. Regional dances competitions, sports championships, election of the queen of indigenous beauty “Soi Noma” and of San Juan 2017; Ethnic parade, handicrafts and livestock fair, pictorial art exhibition, fireworks, shamanic sessions, Peque Peque competitions, San Juanero corso, concerts with regional artists and guests are the activities that will be carried out at the festival.
On June 24 the Feast of St. John reaches the highest intensity, with hundreds of people in the streets celebrating everything, with Mass and processions accompanied by typical bands.
According to custom, generally on June 23 and 24, men and women of all ages flock to the rivers to receive the bath of purification, known as the “blessed bath”, because it is believed that on that day St. John blesses the waters of rivers, streams and lagoons and that also who bathes in them, will have health and happiness throughout the year.
The Feast of San Juan is consolidated as one of the most important festivals of the region and we should all visit Ucayali at least once in these dates.
